It's a small bird with a dark mantle... both are issues regarding trying to nail a 4cy smiths this side of the Atlantic IMHO. I agree that it superficially resembles an AHG in certain aspects - the retained greater-coverts and an obvious tail band. But the suite of features it shows are within an argentatus too, and therefore I don't think you can conclusively say this is an AHG. Also, it does not 'feel' structurally like an AHG - no 'block head' and the bill seems rather thin and parallel-sided.

Aside from a couple of possible first cycle birds in the northeastern US, I've never knowingly laid eyes on a European Herring Gull. Something with this covert pattern, bill pattern, and degree of head/ body streaking seems pretty normal for an American bird, but I am not positive. Unfortunately, my reading comprehension of Dutch is pretty minimal - what are the current thoughts of the bird over there?

Na gisteren de Steppekievit en de Roodkopklauwier gedipt te hebben vandaag weer terug geweest naar de Roodkopklauwier. De vogel niet gezien.

Wel 7 Grauwe Franjepootjes in de Dijkgatsweide en een fraaie Buizerd op Wieringen.

Geen Kleinste Strandloper, wel een Gestreepte Strandloper gezien.

Deze soort in de USA mooier gezien, maar wel nieuw voor mij in Nederland.

Vandaag met Sander S. naar Alphen aan de Rijn gereden om de al een paar dagen aanwezige Grauwe Fitis (Greenish Warbler) Phylloscopus trochiloides te bewonderen.

Aangekomen was het beestje uit beeld, maar we vonden hem snel terug door zijn luide zang.

There was a field with ; Whooper Swans, Bewick"s Swans,and Bean goose.
Surching for ringed swans and geese I found a Bean geese with a neck colar ring.
Just started to read.. there was a very big bang! Cannon-netting.
The ringers where shooting a net over a part of the birds.
25 Tundra Bean Goose, 3 Bewick,s and 6 Whooper Swans where ringed and released.
I left for more birding. I found Kingfisher, Peregrine,s , and Bohemian Waxwings on my way.

The real difficulty is to find a Russian Jackdaw C.m. soemmerringii

This morning a bird alert, Turkestan Shrike!

Near Den Helder.

At 10 am I had the bird in my scope.

It was a Daurian Shrike! adult, female.

Nearby I saw one Bee-eater from yesterday.

For some birding I went to the Ooipolder, Kaliwaal near Nijmegen

No Pygmy Cormorant this morning.

Present where, Common Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Spoonbills and more.

I left and went to Arnhem, to see a Thrush Nightingale.

The bird was still present, and I saw it singing.

I left home with a Red-throated Pipit alert.

Saw these a lot , in the 90's in Eilat ,Israël.

But rare in the Netherlands.

Dipped this one.

Meadow Pipits, Pied Waigtails and Yellow Waigtails where present.

Also Montacilla flava thunbergi (in dutch, Noordse Kwikstaart)

Also the American ducks where in the area, so

I took a look again.

There was one moment I got both, the Lesser Scaup and the Ring-necked Duck in my scope.

I was in Eilat (Israël) on holiday and to do some birdwatching to.
One morning we went for a intro scuba dive.
